Influence of Mercurophylline on the diuretic action of Ethacrynic acid in the tortoise

Abstract
In view of reports by many authors that ethacrynic acid and mercurial diuretic have a common mechanism and sites of action in the nephron, it was investigated in present study whether a mercurial diuretic, Mercurophylline, which has been shown to be in effective in the tortoise, affects the effectiveness of ethacrynic acid.
It was found that mercurophylline administered either in advance or after ethacrynic acid did not influence the diuresis induced by the latter. Thus it seems unlikely that both agents combine to the same "receptor" site in the tubules of tortoise.
